When & Where

When to look out for migrating toads and where they’re most active

When Migration Happens

Toad migration usually occurs between late winter and early spring. Activity increases on mild, damp evenings, particularly after rainfall.

Movement varies from night to night, so patrols depend heavily on weather conditions.

Where Patrols Take Place

Patrols focus on Five Gates Lane between Belton and Grantham, where the road intersects a long-established migration route leading to local ponds.

Clear guidance on meeting points, safe parking and patrol areas is shared with volunteers before each session.
